If you are creating any kind of video production or photography content, you will need to get permission from anyone featured in the video for their likeness and their voice to be included in the video or photos.
You will also want a video release form to include permission, if you want to do this, to use their likeness and voice not only in this video but to promote your business in other ways. For example, you might use them in a social media video or an end-of-year mash-up video that looks back at your work over the year.
Whether the people featured in your video are your staff or not working with you, you need to do this as you don’t want someone to decide after they have filmed with you that they don’t want to be in the video. A release form focuses the person involved into thinking about what they are getting into.
If you have children in your video or photos, for example, you might film your talent interacting with their family at home; you will want to ensure their parent or guardian signs for them.
Basically, a video release form looks like this, and don’t worry, there is a link at the bottom of this page to download this as a .docx file.
