Our healthcare video production team travelled to Tasmania to capture the story of Thomas, Joan and their family, documenting their journey through diagnosis, treatment and recovery.
Born with a rare congenital heart defect, both Thomas and Joan required specialist treatment at Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital. For their family, this meant travelling from Hobart to Melbourne multiple times to access the expert care they needed.
Through intimate interviews and observational storytelling, we created a powerful patient story video that highlights the resilience of families navigating complex medical journeys and the life-changing impact of specialist healthcare.
Creating the Royal Children’s Hospital Family Story
The goal of this project was to capture an authentic family story that showed the emotional realities behind a medical journey. Rather than focusing solely on treatment, the video explores the people, challenges and moments of hope that shape a family’s experience.
By combining heartfelt interviews with natural family moments, we created a story that showcases:
- The journey of children and families accessing specialist healthcare
- The dedication of medical teams supporting complex cases
- The strength and resilience of families throughout treatment and recovery
This approach allowed us to create an engaging healthcare storytelling video that connects with audiences on a personal level.
Filming the Family Story Video
Our team travelled to Hobart, Tasmania, to capture Thomas, Joan and their family in their home environment. Filming on location allowed us to document genuine moments and create a more personal connection with their story.
The production focused on capturing a mix of:

- Observational lifestyle footage
- Meaningful moments that reflected their journey
By filming in an environment familiar to the family, we were able to create a warm and authentic medical case study video that reflects their experience with care and sensitivity.
