Aikenhead was a building that was home to many St Vincent’s nurses over many years. In 2022 St Vincent’s finalised redevelopment plans for the location meaning demolition was inevitable. Before the wrecking balls began swinging St Vincent’s asked us to help tell the story of how much the old building had meant to it’s inhabitants during the previous decades. We interviewed 2 ex-nurses who had spent time at Aikenhead and had them relive some of their memories. They were also able to supply some photos from their archives to help fill in the historical narrative. We spent a day walking the corridors and capturing b roll of the empty spaces that had once been so full of life. The video was incredibly well received and remains a testament to some of Melbourne’s most valued health workers. Today the building is long gone and replaced with an amazing state-of-the-art research facility.
